How to boost your immune system?

The immune system is a network of cells, organs and tissues in charge of protecting your body, preventing and limiting infections. There are different recommendations we can do to keep our system strong. Here some of them:

1. A proper nutrition:

Feeding your body with certain natural foods rich in vitamins may help to keep your immune system strong. Good alimentation is important because as many other systems, our immune system needs to be well nourish with micronutrients such as Vitamins A, C and E, folic acid, zinc and iron.

Some natural foods to boost your immune system:

- Squash: Squash is a good source of vitamins A, C and fiber, is also a high antioxidant.

- Citrus: From the citrus such as orange, lemon, grapefruit, and others, you can get plaint of vitamin C which increases the production of white blood cells.

- Spinach: Spinach is superfood loaded in nutrients. It’s a great antioxidant and high in vitamin A, calcium, iron and magnesium.

- Turmeric: This spice from the turmeric plant has been used in India for many years as a medicinal herb, mostly used to reduce inflammation.

2. Exercise adequately and drink a lot of water:

Moderate exercise contributes into general health; It’s recommended to exercise at least 150 minutes per week. With good health our immune system is stronger.

Also, water helps to carry oxygen to your blood cells, therefore drinking water also contributes to the health of our immune system. It’s recommended to drink around 2 liters of water per day, but this quantity varies with many personal factors.

3. Getting good sleep:

Before sleeping eliminate distractions, and try settling a sleeping schedule to let your body habituates. Around 8 hours of sleep is recommended to give our bodies the time to recover from our daily activities.

4. Wash your hands and keep a good hygiene:

Wash your hands regularly to eliminate bacteria, mostly when you have been in contact with other people, public places, public transport, after using the restroom, before and during cooking, etc. Also keep a good personal hygiene and a clean house.

5. Link your mind and body:

For a healthy immune system is important to have a balance between mind (psychology) and body (health).

First, try eliminating or reducing daily concerns. Stress and anxiety causes mind and body tension and it can lead into psychological and/or medical conditions. Also avoid overthinking, overthinking is a creation of thoughts that can be or not be real and creating a stress over them.

To have a balance, follow the recommendations already mentioned. You can also meditate. Meditation is a great way to balance mind and body. Even thought is hard at the beginning, with time you learn to control your mind and reduce different stress causes.

It’s important to mention that many other factors can contribute to our immune system response capacity, such as age, other diseases and lifestyle.
